James (Jim) Hare joined Colorado Preservation, Inc. as executive director on May 1, 2009. Prior to joining CPI, he was the director of Cornerstones Community Partnerships, a nationally recognized historic preservation organization serving New Mexico, Southern Colorado, West Texas and the Greater Southwest. He holds a BA in Art History and Classical Archaeology from Bowdoin College (Brunswick, Maine) and an MA in Historic Preservation from Goucher College (Baltimore, Maryland), where his thesis “Design Review in the Charleston Historic District” received that institution’s prestigious McCollough Prize in 2001.

A native of Denver, Colorado, Jim has also worked for the Historic Charleston Foundation in Charleston, South Carolina as manager of its conservation easements program, and for the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Drayton Hall property, where he managed a regional “smart growth” initiative known as the Ashley River Conservation Coalition.

In Santa Fe, James served as an architectural historian with the New Mexico Historic Preservation Division from 2002 to 2004. Prior to receiving his advanced degree in Historic Preservation, Jim had an 18 year career in business publishing, marketing and new media development.
